Title: 1954 1000 note signed Thiessen/Crow?
Post by: Sandra on May 28, 2007, 01:58:21 pm
I'm wondering what the value of this might be?

1954 $1000 note signed Thiessen/Crow
s/n:  A/K1967863
It has folds in the center but in otherwise good condition.

Thanks in advance for any help.

The 1954 $1000 Modified banknote with Thiessen-Crow signatures was the last of the 1954 $1000 notes
to be issued.  Notes with this signature combination were issued into circulation in 1992 and were used until
the new Bird Series $1000 notes were ready for release.

Records show that 240,000 of these notes were printed but only a small fraction of that amount were actually
released into circulation, with the majority not being issued and eventually destroyed.

The number of collectors who actually collect $1000 banknotes is small, and as such, there is a limited demand
for this banknote in the marketplace.  It is difficult to assign a grade to your note without seeing an image or
physically examining the note.  Based on your brief description I would presume that the note is graded VF or
better.  Here are current catalogue values for that note based on grade:

VF                      $1250
EF                      $1400
AU                      $1800
UNC                    $2400

I hope this helps answer your query.
