Title: How US currency is made on Television
Post by: Gary_T on August 31, 2007, 10:56:48 pm
Starting at 11:00 pm in Ontario on the Natonal Geograghic Channel there is a program called Money Factory. It shows how currency and coins are made and how they try and protect them from counterfieting.

It's starting now!  Let me know if you were able to watch it.

I loved the part where the guy was skimming Gold bars and stashing them in his artificial leg. Takes balls but not an awful amount of brains !

A little bit more advance notice would be appreciated

I knew it was on days in advance but I kept it to myself until last minute on purpose.

Anyways I'll keep a look out for it to be on again and will post the viewing time as soon as possible as I did this last time.

This program was amazing. There are 5,000 employees involved in manufacturing U.S. currency and they print 650 million dollars each day and shread 500 million each day.

They showed how they make the paper with water marks and security thread in the middle. They also said it takes 10 years to learn to engrave banknote plates and each plate takes hundreds of hours to produce.

It also went on to talk about counterfieting and how the secret service has 23,000 different counterfiet notes in there collection. They showed how they found a counterfieting operation in Columbia and based on the notes in there 23,000 note collection determined that this operation was printing 3 million dollars worth of notes for 10 years.

You're an evil, no-good, scum-sucking bottom feeder, you are! Good thing for you that very few others were able to tune in because that would have caused a virtual traffic jam on the television frequencies and everyone would have gotten static because where wasn't enough show to supply all the demand. And I bet you didn't record it either so you could keep it all to yourself, right?

I know you'll be diligently monitoring the program guides weeks in advance to give us all as much notice as possible so that nobody misses it the next time. Just make sure you let the broadcaster know to put on some extra bandwidth to handle all the demand caused by our forum members! I would hate to have everyone see only static.

Enh, what do I care... I've already downloaded it.
