If the note has a varnish, you can erase ink markings off. I've tried it and it works. ;D Thank god the BoC put varnishes on the fives and tens now.

Most unfortunate that blood, source not revealed, wipes off too easily but not entirely.

I picked up a 1935 $2 with serial A4670765. Just one away from a radar!
By the way, could I label this as a shoulder note, even though I don't have the radar (which probably doesn't exist anymore)?

just 1 away from a ladar-radar :(

This was a busted 4 pack of $20s from BABN that I picked up at diff locations at two diff days :-(

Too bad.
Looks as if it's almost an inside job somewhere along the way before it got to you Huds. :o
Maybe remember the prefix and wait for this note to pop up of ebay or some auction. Or it could be floating around town still.
The 1110111 is nice though.

How about ALT8999999 20$ from a bank machine :'(
-
Have you got at least the radar note?

Yes but the 9 million wasn`t there, the next bundle started with a different prefix. ???

Don't feel bad...I used to operate a gas station, had an old guy come in and pay me with crisp musty smelling 1954 $20's. This happened 5 times in all and I switched them out for a regular $20 everytime.
Showed them to someone and told me they were Devils head bills and to hang on to them...so I did...
Nineteen years later my wife and I split in a slightly nasty deal....guess what I cannot find! ::)

Just got it at the atm in ottawa

I know is not a radar but--
I've been searching for a $5.00 APM note all summer. I've been looking and looking, and finally found one torn in half (taped). It also had a chunk missing out of the corner. A totally uncollectible note I had to put back into circulation. So the search continues.

What is so important about the serial number?
-
2 digits from being a 2 digit radar, which would also be a binary nonte (special series, only involving 1s and 0s), and 3 numbers away from being a MILLION numbered note. Check the catalogue on that one, but it is more than face value :-)

I didn't mention that there was a huge tear going across the top of the note. But anyways gave it away as a gift to somebody who'd appreciate it for what it is and not for its condition.

Did you happen to get the FPN and BPN? I noticed that it has not been entered in the mismatched serial number registry.

As close as it gets...but is there any collectability for notes like these? Its only $20 and the note is kind of neat.
-
When I saw you post it reminded me of a 1988 $50 banknote that I have and I checked the serial number and it is FHB 1000002.
I cannot believe meeiting its next in sequence here.
-
Every special serial numbered note has two shoulder notes (except 0000001 and 9999999 of course). So finding a shoulder note is twice as likely as finding the note you want. :-[

But getting the 0000001 brick and the 9999000 brick before it wouldn't hurt one bit :)
So who cares if the prefixes are different

I missed 2 2-digit radar 50s today. :-[
First one was when I took out some money at a machine and noticed I had AHP3355530-21 in my hand, so I stuck my card in and found out the numbers were going down.
Next one was a few hours when I saw AHN9559565-66 come out of another ATM, and this time the numbers were going up! :'(
Someone was really having fun jerking me around today!

-That has to be one of the worse case scenarios we've seen posted here for while- Poor Wizard!
- I couldn't even tell you how many times I've withdrawn several 20's out of an ATM where I've been ONE DIGIT off (on the last digit) from getting a Two or Three Digit Radar and no cigar after so many tries (and the notes become random again). Grrr... >:(
Which has led me to believe there are a lot of new paper money collectors who are either bank-tellers, managers, or someone working in the ATM cash distribution system, etc. Either that or one of you brick hunters lives nearby :'(

Going to my trusty ATM which always has crisp tens, I almost peed my pants in excitement when I saw the notes 1111084-1111088 come out of the ATM. I kept taking out $50 (since the machine gives me 5 10s). Notes went up to 1111099, then jumped to 1111200. >:-(
How mysterious that 11111XX bundle is conveniently missing!
-
It may not have been missing... It might just have been loaded out-of-order from the others. But then again, it could have been missing. All depends if you're a glass-half-full guy or not. LOL

In one of my first jobs out of high school it was pretty much door to door sales.... The one guy said to me... this job sucks.. you're going door to door, most people don't want to even talk to you, and when someone does... you still have to close the deal. His silver lining was that, the more doors you knocked on the more chances you have of making a sale (and putting food on the table)
Just think water.... for all those disappointments you've come across, when you finally do score a solid you may be walking around like priapus for a week ....

What happens is I so often come across notes that come right up to the point of being a radar and then the # jump by 100,000 or multiple of 10,000 in a bad way so no cigar.

I've always thought that if 8s count, so should 1s. The serif on the 1 is not that much different than the difference in size of the loops on the top and bottom of the 8s.

What the heck?! TD Bank machines give out US $20s?!
TD has a USD-dispensing machine in the concourse level of the TD Tower in Dwotntown Toronto. ;) I haven't seen one anywhere else though.
Scotia also has a USD ATM in their main branch, and CIBC/RBC have USD in quite a few of their ATMs around the country.

-That's a pretty "tough pill to swallow," especially in light of the fact you're up against matching 8 digits for a US radar # (which is a much harder feat than a 7 digit radar)
I have that happen when I get UNC runs too (CDN consecutive numbered notes which stop (or jump 100's of numbers) at the note where there should be a radar) This "no cigar" phenomenon where I'd expect the radar to appear -but strike out- has me talking to myself the rest of the day (with various conspiracy theories of course!) ::)

I got lucky two weeks later and pulled out a US$20 radar from the Tangerine ATM in downtown Toronto. That one required a lot of tries and waiting before I was able to get to it - I pulled out US$40 and realized it was about 60 notes away from the radar. I ended up making 3 return visits over the day and finally got the radar in my hands. ;D
