Title: Low Serial Number Set
Post by: ReindeerMtnCollectibles on October 25, 2008, 11:17:37 am
Hi,
I just discovered this board and this is my first post.  I have a couple of low serial number sets of Canadian Currency and was hoping to get some help on values.  Thanks!

Here is one of the sets:

Nice matching set of low numbers
Book prices for UNC are
$1   $75.00
$2   $75.00
$5   $120.00
I think a set of matching numbers would likely make it worth more to someone who collects that type of thing.

Thanks for the prices.  Anyone have an idea how much having the matched numbers increases the value?  Thanks, Frank

Definitely you got a really nice low number set.

Please accept my apologize first if you don't like to hear.
For sure I am picky, because your number set's prefix without any logical relationship for the $ notes or related to each others, it won't have a big percentage increase in value as the other number set with logical relationship prefix.  Example for the prefix are $1 AA $2 BA $5 CA or $1AB $2 BB $5 CB or $1AA $2 BB $5 CC etc etc.

I know it is impossible to collect number set with co-relationship in prefix for the later stage in multicolor series, birds and journey.  However, your set is another story.  As for me only (not others collectors), I won't give a high premium for this set in any market condition but will definitely give a higher premium for the set with prefix related.

Some of my friends also collect notes and they are even picky to collect solid no notes say $1 AA1111111 or $5 EE5555555 or CE3333333 or EC5555555 something like that.  Their reason is if I am paying so much for the notes iteself, it should have something that is different with others.  Different people with different idea, for me as example with birthday Jan 3 will collect AC1313131 something like that.

For me, I do have a low number set #0000005 for multicolor $20 and $10

As I said before, not to discourage you or devalue your set, but don't expect it carry the same percentage increase as the others sets.

Thanks for the input.  This is one of several sets I have acquired at a reasonable price but I am by specialty a collector of $2 U.S., $2 Canadian, and $2 World notes.  I liked the deuces in the sets and decided to buy the sets for that reason.  I don't dabble in fancy numbers as general rule.  Any added value is just an additional plus.  Thanks you for your replies.  -Frank

 Hi Frank,
I like your set because of the randomness of the prefix letters. it's quite easy to get say a bird set with the prefix ANA, ADA, and AIA with the same numbers but these were put together at the time of printing and sold by the Bank of Canada as well as sets of low numbers of the 1935 and 1954 devil's face notes.

I have a few low numbers and the fun is in the hunt of finding matches.

What other numbers do you have?

Hi Gary,
Thanks.  I have a set of #31,#32,#36, and #40.  I had a pair of #35's but I know a fellow collector that collects #35 so off the went.  -Frank

Thanks everyone.  I would love to find a $10 for this set.  Sorry, no #43 notes.  I'll keep an eye out though.
