Title: 1912 Dominion of Canada $5 Train Note DC21g

Well I bought myself a Christmas Present :)

A 1912 Domion of Canada $5 Train Note! Chooo choo!

I saw this auction and had to throw down an offer. I paid $700US for this note.
Could you guys give your opinion on if it was a Good Deal?

I have been wanting one of these for like 10 Years now and this seemed to good to pass up.

There are bunch of pictures of the note on the auction.
I am thinking it is in the VF Range but will need to see it in person once I get it.

Did I get a good Deal? Opinions on Price paid and Grade from what you can see would be greatly appreciated.

You can clearyly see part of another note at the top where it says "Canadian Banknote company limited" at the top of this note.

ie: Does this Detriment the note any? I guess its better than being trimmed..

Post by: Elwoodbluesca on December 22, 2008, 07:14:07 pm: The note may be considered as off center if graded by a TGS. Personally, I saw the note, and liked the fact it had a portion of the top note attached to it. I totally forgot about it, so I missed out. Nice note.

And you might want to buy a new Charlton Guide... F is $1200CDN and VF is $1650CDN and I think this note is a bit more than VF-20 so more like $1800ish.

If you really want one... there's a Canadian seller who has one up right now on you know where bay.

Its a VF DC-21g with 2 Repaired Tears.. only asking just over 2K CDN.

So yeah, wow! You got yourself a great deal. I just can't imagine why the seller would sell it for that much.

As for the offer, I don't buy notes with tears. Ever. I don't care if it's an EF ultra rare, I can't stand scotch tape on bills.

Post by: Ottawa on January 15, 2009, 12:24:34 pm: I would have to say that you got a SUPERB deal on this note. It was only up on eBay for about 7 hours and you wisely grabbed the opportunity. What I see is a fresh, clean and entirely original (unpressed) note with decent margins all round. The top margin is very wide and shows part of the adjacent bill (some people even pay extra for this!). The main thing is that it doesn't appear to have been doctored in any way (never washed or pressed, no repaired tears, etc.) It's easily worth double what you paid although with the market being a bit slow right now because of the recession it might be difficult to sell for what it's really worth.

Usually there are always some of these notes up for sale at montreal Nuphilex but grades are usually VF or better and all priced $1,200 and up. There was one last november i saw in UNC condition... price was around $7,500 :'(

The seller said it was one note from an Inherited collection but this was the most significant note in the collection. I assume the seller didn't want the note and wanted some quick Christmas cash.

The note seems original in every way which I am very happy about. Other than the centre fold and what looks like a small pen mark on the back it is very nice.

I think it was a good trade.. the seller got some Christmas cash and I got myself a nice Christmas present. :) And a decent price.
