Title: misprint $10?
Post by: gammsarah on March 25, 2009, 04:23:17 pm
I have a Canadian $10 bill that appears to be a misprint.

It looks like a $10 in print, but all of the internal security features are of a $20 bill.

The holographic bar to the left says "20," the ghost image is that of the Queen on the $20 bill (with "20" above her left shoulder) and the dashes on the right says "CAN 20."

The quality of the bill indicates that it is not counterfeit.  There is raised print, the texture of the bill is right and the dashes on the right make a continuous bar when held to the light (I worked in the counting room of a casino, so i am familiar with detecting counterfeit).

It is a 2005 issue, printed in 2007.

If this is a misprint, what could the value be?

see pictures below: Better quality pictures can be emailed at your request.

This would be worth hundreds of dollars depending on condition. A scan would be nice to see.

I've never heard of this type of error, I have seen a $20 and $100 on the same note in the bird series, sounds like a good one.

I'm trying to scan the bill, but the lowest I can get it is 1.63MB, which is way too big to upload.  Is there a way of going around this?

You should use the Image Shack Tutorial that is on the forum.

Wow, Nice! Looks weird to see the "20" on the $10 Note

Looks like there is two sets of raised bumps, consistent with the 10s.

I have the same misprinted note as yours;seiral number:2190162.
A local Chinese trader offered me $5000 before.
It's 100% true message.
I have witnesses too.

If I were you, I would of taken the $5000 and ran. The note is not worth that much.
Yes I do understand that there is excitement when finding something new, but it is important to keep things in perspective as well.

A good example, when the news CP24 covered a $20 printed upside down (2yrs ago) on the sheet, the finder thought he could get $100,000++ for it, in the end it was sold to a dealer, and for well under $1000. The notes that were reported from the finds were from the same sheet, range, and the serial numbers were very close to each other.

The issue here is that 2 notes are known and from different prefixes, giving the impression that there is a possibility that all the notes in-between the two ranges are also printed the same way.

Hi Total,

I think i'm confused.... do you have BTT 2190162 ??

Yes, Total is highbetter. He messed up something with his account and created a new one. So, Total has the BTT 2190162 note and has implied that he has a small number of other consecutive notes.

Based on previous posts by highbetter he actually has BTU 2190162 not BTT ...........

ELwood and firesq.......
I don't care what you said.
I just trust auction sale not by your comments.
Elwood, you offered me $200 by PM.
Thank you very much.
This note is paper money blunder not paper money error.
Nowadays, there're only 2 misprinted notes surfacing.
The blunders are the selling points.
Anyway, there's a famous auctioneer accepting to do auction for my note.
If I can't get good price then I keep it as a toy paper.
The King of misprinted note is(Double denomination).
My misprinted note is the Queen of misprinted note (Hybrid Note).

Elwood, you offered me $200 by PM.

Hello Total,

I did not make an offer of $200, I stated that the note would be most likely going into the next catalogue in the $200 range. This is based on the information that is currently available for the note ranges.
Sure I would be interested in the note, but you really did not indicate that you were serious about selling, as I received no response, thus I did not pursue. Please do PM me with a selling price you are looking for and we can go from there.

Yes this is a Hybrid note, and yes it is cool. But no matter how cool it is, the quantity of notes dictates the market selling price.
Remember this:
1st sale is a sale
2nd sale is a trend
3rd sale is a market

This is a new discovery, and some people not understanding or ignoring the market will jump all over this new find and overpay most of the time. Why because they have not collected all of the available info and analyze the situation.

As for the Bank of Canada museum, they would not want this note, as they do not consider this to be anything special. How do I know this, I have been there when others have offer the curators error notes, and for free, and they turn the offer down.

Then I'll shred these hybrid notes and throw it to garbage can.

Don't do that, that would be silly.
My point - According to the Bank of Canada, this note is only ever worth $10, and they have stated that in the past when shown other error notes, even on the news.

Alright, enough of this silliness...

Total: The folks on this website have endeavoured to provide you with honest and accurate information regarding your note and have put a fair bit of effort into doing this for you. Your note is worth only what someone is willing to pay...regardless of what you think it is worth.
