Title: Misprinted $20 Bill?
Post by: qcumber on August 28, 2010, 03:26:33 pm
Has anyone seen this before on a $20 with the missing ink on the zero and the coat of arms?

Do you have a scan or picture available?

yes I have. Except for it was missing ink along entire width of that specific area of the note. This of course was on a Journey Series $20. Qcumber what series note are you talking about?

It says printed in 2007. issue of 2004. It has the Haida Gwai canoe by Richard Hunt I think. Is that the "Journey series"?

Yes that is the journey series. I have the same type of error however mine is missing entire coat of arms. IMO it was due to some sort of obstruction (possibly tape) during the printing process. This is because there are two distinct border lines that are viewable as well as noticeable when you run your fingers over it.  Might I ask the prefix of your note (the 3 letters in front of the serial number)

Thanks.

Welcome to the forums btw.  ;)

The first three letters of the Serial # are ARJ

It *might* be considered an error note.  There's a thin plastic film that covers the holographic strip on upgraded Journey series notes.  The 20 and the Coat of Arms, as well as some background tint, are printed onto the plastic.  When the plastic strip is removed, the design printed on it will be missing from the note.  I once found a $5 note which has the plastic film belonging to another note stuck loosely to it...

Because the film can come off after the note is printed, it should not be considered an error by definition.  It would be impossible to prove how and when the film came off if you found a note in circulation missing part of the counter and the coat of Arms, so I don't think such a note would carry a premium.

Qcumber's note with half of the strip missing is interesting, but ultimately the same thing as a note missing the entire strip.
