Title: BPA (bisphenol A) and polymer notes

I read an article in the Globe over the summer (Aug 17th 2010) regarding BPA (bisphenol A), the chemical that is used in the manufacture of plastics which mimics estrogen and is found to have adverse health effects. Does anyone know if BPA could be present in the new polymer notes to be issued in 2011?

If it is, I do hope you're not planning on eating the notes...

I would be very surprised to know that BPA is found in the polymer for the next generation of notes, since BPA is used mainly to make fairly hard and resistant plastics.

The polymer that will be used by BoC is made from polypropylene, which does not contain any BPA...

So, in the case of a child eating a polymer note, I would worry much more about all the bacterias and diverse soilings found on any note than the minute trace of some chemical which could be released from the plastic... ;) ;) ;)
