Title: Counterfeit $20 found in Niagara Falls
Post by: lara4228 on March 18, 2011, 11:53:01 am
Hi,

I just got a memo saying that this note is counterfeit.  I have no photo as I did not receive the $20.

Here is the description I have:

Hologram strip seems bogus
Bill appears to be a photocopy
Paper is not cut properly.

I know this is pretty vague description, but it's all I have.

I didn't know they could forge the Journey Series.

Can anyone verify the SN at all?

Thanks

You didn't provide a serial number, but even if you did, if the note was a photocopy of a genuine note, the serial number would be fine.

PS: If it can be made, it can be forged. Nothing is 100% forgery-proof.

Quality with forgeries only has to be "good enough". Good enough to fool the receiver of the note. Regardless on the number of security measures, type of paper, etc. if it passes muster during a transaction, that's as good as it has to be.

The ones I've come across were obvious forgeries to someone with a bit of knowledge (or obsessed with paper money, like myself  :)) but depending on the circumstance the note was passed, they could be easily overlooked.

They're out there and it sucks to get stuck with one.

Yes there are a lot of obvious forgeries out there. However, as the technogy improves and quality paper is readily available, there are some very good counterfeit notes out there. Some are even getting pass the local banks. Counterfeit notes are showing up in all parts of Canada even the more rural tourist area of the province. Maybe they slip pass cashiers easier in those more rural communities.
