Title: Interesting Devil's face bill
Post by: nedconed on March 21, 2012, 08:02:39 pm
Hi I am posting this for my Dad he is wondering if anyone has some info or idea on the value of this bill. He has not come accross any other devils face bills with the off-set cuts. Thanks for any input.

Hello
Your note is fairly common and in rough shape, yes it is off centre, but that is not enough to warrant any premium as an error note.  In fact i would say it's value is reduced because it is off centre.  At best its worth $20.00 or so.

The centering in the 1954 series was poor.  Off centering actually reduces the grade of the banknote.  If the note was miscut i.e. had a part of the adjacent note showing then it would be worth more than face.

Since it is a devil face you should be able to give 20% over face IMO.

IMO: Start off by looking at the back of the note.  If it is centered, and if the note is as big as any other DF, then yes, it is off-centered & at best worth $20.

If the back of the note is almost as off-centered as the front (in the same orientation), and the note is slightly smaller then another DF- then the note has been trimmed where it lacks borders.  In this case, it wouldn't be worth much more then face.
