Title: $50 Polymer Error Bill
Post by: Clicker on April 16, 2012, 02:31:10 pm
I got this polymer $50 bill that I think the error is a little different from the one we sees. Is the paint on the stripe supposed to come off?

My first posting, so I have no idea what I am expecting.

At first glance it looks like someone has scraped it off like they were keying a car or something.

People think these things are indestructible.  They're not.  They're just a little more durable than paper notes when subjected to normal circulation wear and tear.  (That and being significantly more difficult to counterfeit).

It's not an error. It has been scraped off. It's possible to scrape of all of the foil and the intaglio ink too.

Like BWJM says, these notes are not indestructible, but their novelty has people trying some pretty silly things on them and claiming that they can be so easily damaged. They fail to realize that paper notes can be damaged just as much, if not more, when mishandled the same way.

Never realized the paint could come off as easy as this.

Could have been all sorts of things.  One should not have any expectation though that this is an "error" any more than a scratch down the length of your car.  Could have been anything from completely accidental to malicious vandalism.

Cool, thanks for explaining.
One new lesson learn.
