The Waterloo Coin Society hosted representatives from the Bank of Canada and the RCMP at its monthly meeting this past Tuesday evening.
During the presentation, the Bank of Canada representative stated that the new polymer banknotes are much more durable than the paper notes and have a substantially longer lifespan in circulation. For the $100s, this could approach a 20-year life.
As a consequence of this long lifespan, the Bank expects that after the first print run of $100s (and probably $50s), there will not be a second print run of those denominations for the life of the series.
This is very similar to what was seen in Australia where the initial print run of AUD$100 notes in 1996 (plus a top-up in 1999) was sufficient for years to come and only had its next print run in 2008.

That's some very interesting info... definitely a good choice imo that they switch over. Although R&D and Startup costs were high, Im sure these will save the taxpayers a great sum of money in the long run!
