Title: 1996-2006 regular issue 2$ Coin
Post by: JB-2007 on September 20, 2012, 11:31:56 am
The 2006 10th anniversary 2$ Coin with date 1996-2006 on the bottom (not the "Churchill" reverse)... can anyone confirm if this is really a non-circulation only coin? In every edition of the charlton catalogue it was marked as a regular circulation coin yet i have been searching everywhere for one and never seen it. It's the only "circulation" $2 coin that i'm missing. Now the 2013 67th edition they have it listed as N.I.I. (Not issued individually) non-circulation coin. Is this information correct? Now that might explain why i never found one.

To the best of my knowledge the bottom double-dated toonie was not struck as a regular business strike circulating coin.

You are probably right.
Looking back at previous editions i have noticed that they were issued as rolls of 25 by the RCM in 2006. It is possible that much like the 50ยข pieces beyond 2002, this particular $2 coin was only available through rolls. These rolls were issued in a very limited quantity of 356 rolls.
