Title: Fiji Flexycoin $5
Post by: AZ on December 11, 2012, 08:30:16 pm
For those of you interested in polymer notes...

Today Fiji unveiled their new 2012 "flora and fauna" series of banknotes and coins. Besides removing the Queen from their notes and coinage, Fiji has introduced their first polymer note. The $5 note is also the first in the world printed on De La Rue's new Flexycoin substrate which is a clear polymer substrate very similar to Securency's Guardian substrate our Frontier series is printed on. With the competition in the polymer substrate market heating up, we should see more plastic notes in the future.

Here is an interesting article  (http://www.currencyaffairs.org/templates/files/library/CN_Apr_11.pdf) on Flexycoin published in April 2011 issue of Currency News.

And by the way, the new Fiji coins were minted by the RCM.

The new Fiji notes and coins will start circulating on January 2. Yes, the $5 note is the first polymer note in Fiji.

Stane Straus of www.polymernotes.org (http://www.polymernotes.org) carries a large inventory of polymer and hybrid notes. On eBay I recommend the following two sellers: yuri111 (US) and noteshobby (Thailand). They have large stores with very reasonable prices and shipping charges, and they are often the first to get new polymer issues.
