Title: Two $5-Polymer-Note-Can-You-Spot-What's-Common
Post by: Rupiah on December 18, 2013, 07:53:09 pm
Here is an image showing the back of two $5 polymer notes. Can you tell something that is common between the two notes other than the design features, the prefix and all but one digit of the serial number?

There appears to be a faint offset from the fronts of two other $5 notes onto the backs of these notes...are these error notes??  :o

Good eye but that's not what I was referring to. The offset is there but very inconsequential. I am surprised you picked it up because even with the note in hand it is often difficult to make the offset ink out from the see through portion of the front side of the image from the same note. I have a feeling that this (the see throughy aspect) may have been an intentional part of design to blend in minor offset ink in these areas.

Part of the design in the maple leaf window appears to be missing.  Or is that an imaging artifact?

Will post the answer tomorrow

So it would seem that these two bills are from the same sheet and they share a common edge. Plate No. 01 and 02 (This does not mean that they are the first and second positions in the ream and for that matter there remains a small possibility that they may not even be contiguous)

The photo below shows the common edge. I tried all edges to see the relative position of the two and this fit like they were once together.

Of course there is still a remote possibility that this may not be true but IMHO unlikely.

In the image below notice the match of the edges and the portions near the hologram. If anyone is interested I would be happy to share photos showing arrangement with different edges together to show that the one below is the only one that works.

Many paper money collectors are into matching serial numbers with different prefixes. Along the same idea I have often thought if collecting all 45 notes in one sheet of polymer would be something that would be possible. I think with the recent $5 denomination coming out with skip 200 interval this may indeed be possible.

I know I for one would love to own all 45 notes from one sheet. Any brickers wanting to consider offering this arrangement?

Thank you to all those who tried to guess.

So that's what you were getting at.  I noticed the plate numbers but didn't think much of them  :D

But you can rest assured I see what you mean by the edges connecting.  It would be cool indeed to collect all 45 notes but that's a lot when you think about it.

I like the idea though  :)

I am not your standard paper money collector but I would be happy and willing to pay a premium even if I can get any 5 in a column or 9 in a row. Of course this type of collection needs to be in a UNC or better condition so that you can organize these notes and display them in an order they were before cutting. Now if you add a special number or prefix combination to this mix that would indeed be something.

And that is why I mentioned $5. The face value would not be that high.

Having said that I do not believe it is as easy to assemble this as it sounds unless of course you knew someone connected with the production of banknotes. ;) But then if it was easy it would not be fun collecting it.
