Title: Post your Canadian Tire Money circulation finds here!
Post by: PaperorPlastic on January 27, 2014, 08:29:15 pm

Like the title says if you find some cool CTM when shopping at Canadian Tire post it here.  It could be anything from old notes to cool serial numbers to replacements and maybe some interesting errors even.  :)

I'll kick it off with today's cool find I got.  A series 9 (1987) 1$ note!  Always nice to get an older one that looks different than the current design!   ^-^

Very good topic. I am looking forward to see what will be posted. It will be interesting to see if anyone ever gets any replacements in change. In all my CT money that i ever got, never got anything "good".  Perhaps the best that i ever got was the 1989 series 25 Cent with the red serial numbers and once i got a 1991 10 Cent with the 10 digit serial number. Both series are not that common. I never got any 3 cent notes that used to be issued. Never understood why a 3 cent note was needed.

CTV news reports today;
"Canadian Tire “money” goes plastic
Canadian Tire plastic loyalty cards will earn rewards at more than double the pace of the now iconic paper money that has spawned diehard collectors. " :(

Yesterday was a great day for older Canadian tire notes.  Got a series 7 (1985) 10 cent and 50 cent notes and also got a series 13 (1987) 50 cent note.  Not worth much especially considering the 50 cent ones weren't in great shape at all but I love seeing the older style notes turn up in circulation  :)

Yesterday was probably my greatest score at the gas bar.  I got a series 8 (1985) 50 cent note, a 50 cent and a 1 dollar note both from series 11 (1989), and a series 13 (1987) 1 dollar note which is also a stretched serial number variety!!!  ;D  So you see what I am talking about take a look at this link:

http://www.ctccc.ca/Press/CTCS13a.pdf

Basically my note looks like number 2.

For those of you wondering how I'm able to find older notes, the attendant at the gas bar has agreed to look through the ones she has on hand. Not every attendant will be willing to do this so be sure to ask nicely and if they ever put any aside, try to get them all, even if you already have them or don't need them.  It's a good idea to bring some notes you already checked (newer ones) from your stash because if what you get from the gas purchase isn't enough to exchange for the notes, you will have some on hand to use.  If they do end up finding some great stuff for you, maybe get them a little something once in a while to show your appreciation and how much it makes you happy what they are doing for you.

Hopefully this helps some of you who are trying to build a collection from circulation!

  Happy Hunting!  :)

Found a whack of Canadian tire money in an old box that used to be my wifes grandfathers.  Over a couple hundred of these old ones. Neat!! Just posted a couple of them for members. New to this whole collectors site.

Hey everyone.  Over the last week or two I have been getting a few old notes from the 1980s like usual.  A lot of it is the same so I won't really post specifics unless its a variety or a harder to get note.  So this week was nothing special, a few ranging from 1985-1989.

That's pretty cool!  Awesome find!  :)

It appears your pictures didn't get attached (I think that's what you meant by what you said).  If you're having trouble posting them take a look here.  It should help.  :)

Hi everyone!  Its been a while but I finally got some neat finds worth posting about.  I recently got the chance to look through a relative's pile of canadian tire money that he's gotten when shopping at the store in the last couple of months.  There weren't any replacements or errors or varieties, but there were a couple of neat old ones mixed in.  There were a couple of series 11 5 cents notes and a series 9 10 cent one, but the really cool ones were the series 4 notes I found, a 5 cent as well as a 10 cent note!  :)

It's nothing too special, they are circulated but nevertheless I was surprised to find them.  The oldest notes I usually find from circulation are series 6 notes and even those are tough to find.  Does anyone know if Canadian Tire has a policy on removing old notes from circulation even if they are still in good shape?  Like the BoC has with banks to send any notes older than the current issue out for destruction.

I got a nice 1962 50 Cent Gas Bar coupon today....ironically when I bought gas at the gas bar :)
Can anyone tell me if this is a series 7 or series 8 from 1962?

Today I got a series 13 1$ note with stretched serial numbers!  Unfortunately it is not in great condition but I'll take it.  :)

Also this weekend Canadian tire has distributed these scratch cards in their flyers.  You bring it with you and when you checkout after buying something, you can get 10-100% of your purchased amount back in CTM.  You will almost surely get 10% like I did but I'd say that's better than the standard 0.4%.  So today I was able to get a pretty decent amount of CTM back which included that series 13 note mentioned above.  Even if some of the other notes are common its still a plus since its more commons that I can use to exchange with a cashier in case I see an older note in their drawer.   :)

I'd say this is a good opportunity to get more notes than you normally do and have a better chance at getting an older one or a replacement.
