Title: Any serial number mismatches?
Post by: Seth on April 15, 2014, 12:23:53 am
I'm just curious if any serial number mismatches or other serial number errors have ever been seen on a Frontier note. I can't recall ever hearing about any.

Check this out
 http://www.ebay.ca/itm/RARE-MAJOR-ERROR-Canada-20-Dollars-Polymer-2012-Serial-s-MISSING-/231201867793?pt=Paper_Money&hash=item35d4b48811

We all know that many of the features on polymer notes can be simply erased...(Not saying that this one is) but buyers beware and always make sure refunds are given if not happy with the item

Thanks friedsquid, but I'm definitely not counting that one.

Has anyone looked closely at the serial numbers under a microscope? The best I can do is a magnifying glass, and the serial numbers look different than on paper notes. Polymer note serial numbers almost look to like laser etching instead of ink.

When you look at the sellers photos he mistakenly posted photos of 2 different notes with the same error. Prefix FIY & BSF.

Two one-of-a-kind errors in the same listing... what are the chances??  ;)

BUMP

Have any serial number mismatches been confirmed on a Frontier note yet? I ask because I suspect that the serial numbers are applied using a different method than that used on previous series (they look almost like laser etching to me.) I wonder if any serial number mismatches will ever be found.

Funny because I've been wondering about this too lately.  I've never seen or heard of any coming up.  I still check for them of course but seems to me like they would be even rarer than the same error on paper notes, if any turn up that is.

Are you able to share some insight into this different method?

Publicly available information indicates that it is the same method as before i.e. letterpress. Some evidence such as offset of ink on the front has been noted and would be consistent with an ink based process.

Ah, thanks. I haven't heard about ink offset errors on the polymer series–that would definitely rule out laser etching.

Not as dramatic as some seen on paper nonetheless offset is evident.

Also a close-up of the numbers shows the classic letterpress outline around the numbers:

-------And when the numbering wheel gets worn or damaged you can find something like this:

If you are lucky you will find this on Plate No 48 of HBV around 4.8 M

It's been nearly six years since the first Frontier series notes were issued, and I'm not aware of any serial number mismatches being recorded yet in this series. Has anyone seen any?

I've got one but not the numbers arer mismatched. It's the prefix.

APF0514440 and APE0514440 graded CCCS Unc65.

Thanks

That's a Canadian Journey series cotton paper note. I was asking about polymer Frontier series notes.

Hello all,

I found this topic thanks to member walktothewater. He pointed out to me that mismatch serial numbers are rare with the polymer notes. Well, yesterday I posted a $50 polymer note with this type of error. Please follow this link:
