Title: $10 Polymer folding error
Post by: BILLWATCHER on July 20, 2014, 01:31:56 pm
Has anyone seen a pre-printing folding error on a polymer banknote before?  I saw it on ebay and was wondering about it.

It's a note with a fold down the middle.  Nothing more.

Yes, but has anyone seen a pre-printing fold on a polymer note before?  I would think that the polymer would have a lower tendency to fold/crease prior to printing.

You have to be really, really careful about buying alleged error notes on polymer that involve missing ink.  It is easy to remove the intaglio printing.  Look closely!

Bob is right.  Apparently, polymer is not as absorbent as paper, so the ink dries on the surface and can be easily removed.

"Pre-printing folding errors" are actually not a new concept.  When a sheet becomes folded or has creases running through it, the printing will be offset and there is usually a cutting error associated with the fold.  Adding the words "pre-printing" to the description actually does not mean anything.  I think it's just a buzzword to make the note sound special and attempt to fool you into thinking anything about the seller's description is correct.  I don't believe the note is uncirculated either.

By astounding coincidence, I "found" one of these purported errors on a $5 note.  Not only does it have a white gutter, but there are subtle design differences too.  O:-)

That is a pretty cool note.  What is that floe pen with a crossed out signature?

Seems to be folded in the same place as the $10 note.

Please tell me you realize that's not a real error note that I posted above.  ???

Indeed, this is one of those times when silence speaks louder than words.  :(
