Title: Frontiers $100 M/C to M/P changeover
Post by: AZ on September 28, 2014, 06:00:27 pm
It's funny, 17 FKP and FKR notes as well as a few high serial FKN notes have been entered in the SNDB, but nobody has noticed that the signature on these notes is Macklem-Poloz:

My FKN M/P note has the serial number of 8852392.

Nice find. I wonder what the changeover will be.

I also wonder when (or even if) Carolyn Wilkins' signature will appear.

Nice find!  I was wondering if any other denominations would have M/P signatures before Wilkins' makes an appearance.

It's quite easy to miss that surprisingly.  Especially if you're entering a bunch of notes robotically into the SNDB and are just paying attention to the serial numbers and FBN and BPN, its easy to not notice the signature or the whole front of the bill for that matter.  It's for this reason that I try to look at every bill once both sides before I enter them into the SNDB and later spend them (if they're nothing special of course  ;)).

Well, according to the BOC (thanks suretteda for the link), $5, $10 and $100 have been printed with both M/C and M/P signatures, while $20 and $50 notes with only M/C signatures: http://www.bankofcanadamuseum.ca/complete-bank-note-series/2011-2013-polymer-series/ (http://www.bankofcanadamuseum.ca/complete-bank-note-series/2011-2013-polymer-series/)

Next we should see M/P $10 notes and then W/P $20 notes.

I don't think they are that far away now the M/P $10's but i doubt we'll see W/P just yet, we may actually see M/P on the $20 first.

Oops - FKP 9582058 - MP - Totally missed it.

So are:

FKN 4292541

and the high low FKR currently in the SNDB.

My estimate is that the changeover is possibly close to FKN 1635093 because that is when they changed their PN from the -9 to regular numbers according to my database.

From my database (and I am sure the SNDB will have more precise data) the changeover could be between

FKN 1361653 to FKN 1635093.

I wonder what the sole FKS is because it has been there since November 2013 almost the time 5's and 10's came out.

When I see those kinds of anomalies I tend to suspect a typo. Maybe FKA or FKD

Well FKV sure does exist and has a M-P signature. No typo there. If image thing was working I could send the forum an image.

The SNDB has been updated with a possible changeover point.  This is unconfirmed, but will flip to confirm upon receipt of reliable information from the Bank of Canada.

OFFICIAL CHANGEOVER DETAILS

$100   CBN   Last note signed Macklem/Carney:   FKN 1395000*
$100   CBN   First note signed Macklem/Poloz:   FKN 1404000

The Serial Number Database has been updated to reflect this newly confirmed information.

* Yes, this zero note may seem odd, but I have been reassured that this is the official changeover as it was determined to be the last M/C note deemed fit for circulation.
