Title: Nickle hoard found 1938 to 1955
Post by: IamCollector on December 19, 2014, 11:39:36 pm
Hello I recently found a jar of old nickles on the family farm using a metal detector.  Just wondering what these coins could be worth.  I have nickles from 1938,39,40,41,42.  1944 and 1945's and 1951,53,54,55.  There was almost a full $40 in face value in the jar.  There was also about 50 United States WWII nickles and 15 wheat pennies.  Any info would be greatly appreciated

It really depends on the condition of your nickels. Generally the dates you mentioned aren't worth much in circulated condition (at VF-20 or less)... in that grade your looking at around $0.50 each. The same is true for the US coins but you need to check the mint mark (none, D or S) as some can be scarcer.
