Title: $100 polymer replacement note prefixes
Post by: canadiancoinaholic on April 24, 2015, 04:25:44 pm
Hi,  I was wondering if anyone has the prefixes for the 2011 $100 with Macklem Poloz, I bought the 2015 Charlton standard cataloged which has Macklem Carney and that's it. They're 2011 notes but not in there. We're there none for these signatures?
    Thanks Dan

There are a lot of Macklem-Poloz $100 notes in circulation now, they first appeared last summer, after the catalog was issued. The prefixes are FKN-FKZ.

Keep checking out the serial number db. It is the most up to date reference for these notes and gets updated frequently.  So far i don't believe there have been any replacement notes found as of yet with that signature.

Hi,

I just entered a polymer $100 into the database and got confirmation that it is a replacement.

EKK9010124 42/42
This note has been added to the database.
This is a REPLACEMENT note!
EKK 9.000M-9.360M 360k Sheet (GPM25)

Are these notes worth keeping?  This note is circulated, probably VF condition

Thanks,
Dean

Did you check the catalogue for pricing?  Or Gilles' list?

Hi Brent,

I checked the SNDB and that's how I found that this note was a replacement.
I don't have a current catalogue  :P

360,000 EKK notes could be out there- making it pretty common.  Many of the sheet replacements in the $100 denomination have high runs.  Even most $50 sheet replacements were printed in 40,000 which are 1/9th as common.  I've had many EF-AU $100 inserts that go back into circulation.   I don't even withdraw them from the bank that often and I get far more inserts from the $100 than any other denomination.  I also recently found an VF-EF AHS (1.080- 1.120) which is going back. The book rates these at face value in VF/EF and no premium till AU.  Charlton lists all the SNR -which are far less common (in the 100 -2000 range) - as no more than FV too (though they may be worth keeping since the jury is out).  Actually any special # note is worth keeping if you can afford to keep it I suppose (esp if they have some type of extra significance & some eye appeal).

IMO- these polymer sheet replacements not "keepers" unless in near UNC (esp in the higher denominations).
