Title: Cuban banknotes & US embargo
Post by: Manada on July 29, 2015, 01:16:53 am
Does anyone know why we can't sell Cuban banknotes on ebay.ca? I thought only the US had an embargo against Cuba.

Ok, I just got my answer. As Ebay is a US company, this policy applies to items sold on all eBay websites globally.

Funny thing is, doing a quick search there are several sellers selling Cuban notes including one from the US. It seems if you avoid using the entire name Cuba you can skirt the rules.

The embargo is over now, and you should be able to sell them without any issue. It'll be interesting to see what happens to their economy now that soon it will be accepting American tourists. I was there 3 weeks ago, and there's a tone of new resorts being built now because they expect an influx in their tourism. Maybe they'll finally get rid of their convertible peso, it has a horrible exchange rate.

The US embargo against Cuba is definitely not over. Diplomatic relations between the two countries may have been restored but the American bans on tourist travel and trade are still firmly in place.
