I just happen to stumble upon this and wondering if anyone has ever heard of it before, and if it's value is real and similar to cdn$?

This is similar to the The Salt Spring dollar (Salt Spring Island Monetary Foundation).  The Chemainus dollar is exchanged at par with the Canadian dollar and can be used at local businesses.
