Title: Anybody here collect banknotes from countries of the African Continent?
Post by: Canadian Banknotes on May 19, 2020, 02:22:11 pm

So of these banknotes are quite stunning in both color and artistic design.  Just wondering who out there has been collecting these or are interested in these?

I only have a few inexpensive notes I picked up a couple years ago when I started getting into world banknotes (nothing special).  I sure get the appeal of Seychelles, British West Africa, Morocco & Djibouti but I just haven't been able to pick one up at a decent price.  I like South African & early Rhodesian notes too but never won a bid on either.

A few years a go during the Zimbabwe hyperinflation period I bought the three sets of notes that were introduced.  I also bought an extra stack of the 100 Trillion notes*, and typically give them away as a novelty present.

* has demand increased for these?  I notice prices have increased quite a bit when I looked recently.

Just did a search for the same note & came up with
https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2060353.m570.l2632&_nkw=zimbabwe+100+trillion&_sacat=3411 (https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2060353.m570.l2632&_nkw=zimbabwe+100+trillion&_sacat=3411)

1,203 results (32 for sale on the first page alone) & each seller asking for about $85 - $100 for this hyperinflation banknote. There are a few true auction listings (much lower) so it would be interesting to follow up & discover what they fetch.  I cannot for the life of me understand the appeal (or why they would command such a high price).  Other than novelty factor their large #'s don't warrant such steep prices. One seller has 10 circulated notes for $100.  With so many sellers peddling them it defies my imagination what could possibly be in a collector's mind to pony up.  I remember when Banknote World started hustling these by the brick 8 years ago.... wow- how times have changed!
