Title: inverted $20
Post by: Archey80 on January 11, 2021, 07:20:22 pm
Wondering if I paid to much for this one, curious what you think its worth? It does have a small tear in the bottom boarder of the note otherwise its uncirculated.

That is a dramatic error & one I've never seen before.  I tried to find one in Charlton & the best I can come up with is E8-iii (missing holographic strip) but E8-i (misplaced OSD) is likely a more apt category.  For E8-iii the BV is $250  while the BV for E8-i is $500 so I would think it would be closer to the 2nd figure. These are just ballpark figures for UNC examples which help collectors negotiate a price.  I cannot see how extensive the tear is - so you would have to factor that in (& a lot of error collectors are like insert/radar collectors preferring UNC over impaired notes).  A tear is an obvious deduction from its FMV (Fair Market Value) but it can also be like graffiti (a dealbreaker) for some collectors.  IMO: with this misplaced-upside down holographic strip being an unobserved error (up till now), I think many would want to acquire it (rather than reject it).

Here is an article from 2007 describing the first discovery of this Journey $20 inverted sheet error.

Several other notes from this same sheet (EZM7427230 and EZM7475230) have surfaced over the years including one in GUnc condition.

A lapse in quality control also caused a rotated sheet of 2008 $5 Journey notes to be released into circulation.

-Great info "canada-banknotes."  I thought the error looked somewhat familiar but just couldn't place it. I believe you posted this before, correct?  Anyway, thanks for sharing...
