Title: Unusual Maple Leaf with a Stem?

Just had to show my $50 polymer Macklem/Carney FMV4035158 circulated note with a little extra on the maple leaf.  I call it my stem note.  I know that it is hard to determine errors on notes pre and post circulation, but I think this one happened in the factory!!! Comments? (Edit: For those not clear, this is a "hole" in the note that looks like it was caused by heat.)
