Title: Birds of Canada series specimen sets
Post by: Dean on December 31, 2021, 03:41:40 pm
Hello,

It has been over 2 decades since the Bank of Canada surplus sale and I was trying to remember whether or not the Bank sold complete specimen sets of the Birds series that included the $1000 note (a seven note set).

The current Charlton Catalogue lists a "set" of these specimens as six notes $2-100, but has a separate entry for the $1000 specimen note, of which there were only 37 available.

Does somebody out there own a complete matching set of all 7 Bird series specimen notes?

Can anybody refer me to an official publication or auction record that makes reference of a 7 note Birds specimen set being sold?

Thanks,
Dean

I picked up the auction catalog at a thrift shop some years ago as I thought it would be a good reference to have.

They did sell a single set that included the $1000 note as seen in the attachment. Set #0134.

Lot #190 estimate of $2000.

So it does exist but should be treated as a generational item at best, provided it never gets broken up.
