Title: Journey $20 cutting\printing error

I found this $20 a while ago at work when the new $20's just came out. Its serial EYL8634987. There is a small "pull tab corner" that has been folded over on the bill, then part of the security strip was printed over top of it. Is this a common error?

This is a nice error.  Not very common.  You can actually see the missing print on the face of the note because it was printed on the extra flap.

Well, in my opinion, this note is worth about $200 to $300 in this condition.   ;D

Out of the years I have collected, I have not come across one.  Darn!  >:(

It is interesting that the printing on the corner is missing, but how could this happen?

Wouldn't all the printing be done before any cutting was to take place?

Very nice find!  I'm a bit jealous ;) ;) ;).
This error occured between the litho printing (which gives the background color) and the intaglio printing (which gives the dark green color of the Queen's portrait and its relief).  

The corner of the sheet was slightly flipped over and  pressed hard probably by the intaglio  press, and left unnoticed on all the subsequent steps, including (obviously) the cutting step.

I see.

So you are saying that this note's position was at the bottom left of the sheet.

Yes, I think you're correct.  Maybe someone can confirm with the front and back position numbers.  If you can tell us the position numbers of your note, it could help...

The BPN is 54,  and the front is 12, seems like it was definetly cut from the bottom left corner.

Don Roebuck has worked out the plate positions for the $100 CBN (Canadian Paper Money Newsletter, Dec. 2004), and he does indeed conclude that 12/54 is the lower left note when the sheet is viewed from the face, for that denomination.  Since the $20's are also printed 45/on, it is logical that they should be arranged the same way.

They amaze me to Hudson... next time you're in town we'll have to do some trading.

I guess to more accurately describe this error note, it is a butterfly error, but part of the intaglio printing is on top of the folded over section.
