Title: Finally Found a Rotator (swims)
Post by: bankerblair on June 23, 2005, 05:43:19 pm
After much searching through many stacks of cash, I came across Journey$100 BJY 8808088.  ;D Anyone else as fortunate as me?

If you were to try and sell it, you're much more likely to do better advertising it as a 2-digit radar than anything else.

That aside though, congratulations on your find!

You make a very good point as it seems the whole swims idea hasn't caught on....YET ;)

2 digit radar...nice....

SWIMS...will never catch on..IMHO..to "weird" an idea..but if you want 125 for it as a SWIMS as oppossed to what 200 for it as a radar; I'll get you the 125 ASAP  ;D

I haven't been able to get $200 for a $100 radar yet! I think I'll keep it in hope that the swims idea catches on and my note's value sky-rockets.  ;D wishful thinking.

Here is my "ROTATOR" I picked up a while ago.
I like the idea...

I only have one true rotator = 8000008 in a 1973 $1 and I have a presbyopic rotator 8011108 in a 2005 $10.  I think rotators that have 6's and 9's are much cooler.  ex.  6608099 and are harder to spot.

I've found three, two true and one presbyopic (amazing word choice, let's hope it sticks)
HNA 6680899, HOB 9990666, and BKF 6961969,
though the HOB is promised to Brent.  I agree that there's something just amazing about turning 6's into 9's.  When I flip through notes at the bank, the first thing I look for is serial numbers that start '96'.

Mike

OK, someone please enlighten me...what in blue blazes is a PRESBYOPIC rotator??  "Presbyopic" sounds like something for which your optometrist would prescribe eyeglasses...  :-/ ??? :-/

That's a product of some old fogie like eyevet who has bad eyes trying to expand the definition of a rotator note. He thinks that if he can squint enough, an upside down 1 might just look like a regular 1. He's wrong. (darn, the smilie for the scowl I am making right now is not available.)

Strictly speaking, a rotator note can only contain the digits 0, 6, 8 and 9. The centre digit must be a 0 or an 8, and the digits on either side must be the rotated equivalent of each other. For example, if you have 8960 as the first 4 digits, the last 3 must be 968. I wrote a full-length article on the subject for the CPMS newsletter. It is available on my website for interested readers.

This "presbyopic" rotator is a much looser definition of a rotator note, as defined by all those individuals who want to take an ordinary note and say that it's something special and worth paying tons of money for. They tend to include digits such as 1, 2 and 5 in the mix. But this is not valid because if you flip any 1 upside down, it is clearly not a 1. This is true for any Bank of Canada series since 1935.  A similar remark about 2s and 5s. Don't listen to anyone who tries to convince you that this kind of note is a rotator. They're talking jibberish and trying to make some money off you. (I say that tongue-in-cheek knowing that it is directed mainly at eyevet!)

Stick to the true definition of a rotator and accept no imitations!!!

I like "Psuedo-rotator".  That way, it does not compromise the true definition.
I was one lucky man to get my rotator, and one "Psuedo-rotator" ;)
To boot, it is the BEP $10s!! So who knows really how many actually could have been released like this!

BEP 0060900
BEP 0061900

The first one is my one and ONLY real rotator note. Too bad it wasnt the BEK 2003. ;)

If any of us are made Governor of the BoC, please make sure to remove the serif from the number "1", so more Rotator notes for all.

It's at the top of my priority list. That is once I successfully lead the coup d'etat that overthrows Governor Mackie.

I don't think so.

My economic policies will crush your personal economy, and I will have all your financial assets siezed. You'll never be able mount even a tourist visit to the Bank, let alone a coup. Plus the cost of gas will be so prohibitively high by then that it would be cheaper to invent teleportation to get you there.

Got a pretty good one today!
$100 BKH 0861980 in UNC
(I know it uses a 1, but it is the closest I could get!)
- another "psuedo-rotator" lol

I would file this under "Frustrating Bill"   ;)  That is SO CLOSE!!   Hey- you will find one soon.  :)

There are some people out there that keep things like this, although if it is in rough shape, it is probably a spender.

Sorry no 1's allowed and 6's and 9's can be used. Brent has the explaination written some where and I'm sure he'll add a link when he see's this.

There always has to be a 0 or an 8 as the center digit, that's rule #1. Here are a few examples.

6680899
0968960
0080800
8660998
6660999

When they are flipped over they read the same.
