Title: 1954 $1 modified printing error?
Post by: Microjamm on January 22, 2004, 05:55:24 pm
Is this a printing error, or did it just go through somebody's wash?  I scanned it in with a regular note from the same series for comparison.  Notice how different the portrait looks.

To see a larger scan, go here:

Thanks!

Oops....  :-[

I just read the post in the BofC Notes forum from eyevet about how the BABN and the CBN probably used different portraits of the queen for this series, so that would explain that (sorry, I'm a newbie here).   :)

But I still don't know whether the smeared ink of the serial number is a printing error or not.

The Queen's portrait should be the same from either bank note company.  The upper note looks mighty fishy to me.  The Queen's portrait, the messy serial number . . . I never saw a counterfeit 1954 $1 before . . . but could it be . . .? ???

I'm on the same page as Bob....

My first reaction is that it looks counterfeit.  Key word is "LOOKS".  I cannot tell from just a scan, but, the way the ink has smeared, it looks like it got wet.  A real note would not smear from getting wet.

Take it to a dealer and have them check it out.

Thanks Bob & Kelly.

I've had this bill for quite some time, and also wondered whether it might be counterfeit.  Although it would seem strange for someone to counterfeit a $1 bill.  ???

One of these days, I may take it to a dealer and see what they think.  Thanks again for the info!  :)
