Title: $10 Ghost Error Journey note one ebay???
Post by: Oli1001 on December 30, 2005, 12:00:43 pm
just to start off i would like to state that i am not calling the seller of this note on ebay a liar or a cheat or a scammer. Rather i am just trying to see if there is different variations of this type of error. When i was looking on the website:http://www.rarenotes.net/ (the link to the exact picture: http://www.rarenotes.net/ghost10.jpg ) the note was different than the one listed on ebay for the following two reasons:

1. Most of Macdonald's face has been removed whereas the note on 'rarenotes.net' Macdonald's face is just blurry

2. the '10' in the bottom right corner is perfect on the one listed on ebay where as the note on 'rarenotes.net' it seems to be missing.

Once again i am not discrediting the seller, for his feedback is perfect and probably is not trying to cheat anyone.

anyways, any opininons on why this is? Is it a variation in the same type of error or something that im not even thinking of?

That sure does look like its been treated with some chemicals (especially with the liquid splotch on the collar, right side). But lets wait till the experts post eh?

In my opinion, although that may not mean much since I'm still learning about the hobby is that clearly this note did not skip the intaglio stage, because parts of Sir John A. MacDonald's face have clearly been printed. So the only viable things I can think of was maybe the plates were just cleaned with a solvent of some sort, and wasnt properly dried, before being put into use again, or the printer ran out of ink if thats possible!!?? But at the same time it certainly looks fishy too me due to the fact that the intaglio printed writing below his face is clearly legible, which seems very odd.

But I'm just guessing, I could be wrong.

While I am at a loss for an explanation, I must add that many examples of this error have shown up on all denominations, from $5 to $100, so far, and all very similar in what they are missing and what is left behind. I'll let you draw your own conclusions if you choose. I haven't yet.
