Title: How I scan images
Post by: admin on December 31, 2005, 12:01:42 pm: First, and foremost, you should be aware that the newer scanning software (ie. PhotoShop CS, CS 2) have a "feature" that prevents scanning of newer paper money notes. You MUST use an older version of software to scan them.

I use a "Kodak 18% Grey Grey" to assist in scanning my notes. It is a thick card that helps me align my bills on the glass as square as possible, then I use the card as the background for the scan. The grey colour gives me a nice neutral background to make it easy to detect the edge of the actual bill. Most importantly, it does not cause the scanner to try to make any compensation for highlight and shadows areas which you would get if you use a solid white or a black background. Grey gives me excellent colour accuracy and density range first time, every time. Try it with any solid grey card you can find.

I use an HP 4570C with mixed results. Often get shadows or glare from some images taken.

Doesn't seem to hurt note, but destroys the images of some coins. Suggestions?

Post by: admin on March 01, 2006, 10:04:11 pm: Rick, scanning coins is a tricky thing (as you've found out) because they're 3 dimensional. Paper is only 2D.

Heck scanners range from $100-300 each or there are all in one with scanner,copier and fax. Well what a way to bombard someone with just wanting to get a scanner.

What is eveyone thoughts

Any input appreciated.

Image looks good, but before posting, please try to crop the extra whitespace out. You may also consider resizing the image a little smaller so that it fits on most peoples' screens.

(That's almost 100 in coumputer-years) TWAIN format hasn't changed much and works okay with Windows 98 on an old PIII computer. Haven't tried it on my Windows XP platform yet I often use the WIndows on-board/accessories to activate the scanning routine 'acquire image'. Takes 5 mins or so to warm up. So even if I sold my $1 1954 *NY radar or $5 1986 EOH c/b bbpn, I would still have a nice 'scanned collection' so I could reminice in my retirement years. :-?

I also have several (4) 1954 replacement $1.00 and $2.00 bills
(two each)
I've scanned them into my computer using Photoshop.
Is is permissible (by law and/or rules of this forum to include
these images as part of a post to Canadian paper Money?

My scanner can use either Adobe 7 or Adobe 8, but these will not scan the modern Journey notes. Am I correct in assuming that some one of the earlier scanning systems might be able to make nice high-res images of the current notes? Can any of you offer any suggestions?? Any help will be

Post by: Fenian on June 24, 2008, 05:02:46 pm: The software that came with my HP all-in-one printer/scanner/copier (HP Digital Imaging Monitor) scans all notes perfectly. I then use Adobe Photoshop 7 to clean up the notes as later versions of Photoshop refuse to open the file... What brand of scanner are you using?

Post by: projects on December 23, 2008, 10:36:10 am: I'm using Adobe photoshop cs3 and canon D2400U scanner, no problem for scan. but when the file transfer to PS or opened by PS, it'll warning, 'you can open and edit this image, but you will not print it as is.' .

I tried print one out, yes, it can, but the size won't be right, either smaller or bigger. But after the image has been edit by the other software, photoshop won't recognize it as a note, no problem to print or edit, this may be caused by the wrong size.

As long as the image is smaller than a certain size or larger than a certain size, then it is technically legal to print a copy of. Though if you're trying to counterfeit... Well, you're out of luck.
