Title: CPMS members: help required please re: turkey
Post by: alvin5454 on August 06, 2006, 06:56:06 pm
Hello fellow CPMS members, or anyone:
I seem to recall an article in either the CPMS bulletin or journal (in the past three or four years, I thought, but I could be incorrect on that) about a letter accompanying a Dominion of Canada 1897 $1 note, given from Massey-Harris to wives of its employees to purchase a turkey, goose or whatever, for Thanksgiving dinner in 1897.
Can anyone else remember this article, which I believe had an illustration of the message, which does show a turkey?
If so, can you point me to it in the journal or bulletin, please?
If my recollection is amiss, and it was in another publication, I would appreciate that information, please..
You can either reply here, or email me at alvin54@shaw.ca
Thanks in advance.

Yes, as a matter of fact I know where to find this article, or at least a reprint.  http://All Nations Stamp and Coin's latest newsletter http://www.allnationsstampandcoin.com/newsletters/news84.html  features these. Hope that this helps!

The letter was also featured in the 4th edition of the Charlton's paper money catalogue.  See scan below:
