To raise an issue from the dead, is it illegal to possess a counterfeit note?

Yes! It is illegal to possess a counterfeit note of any type. There are certain requirements for “replica” notes such as size and the note being uniface, but there are no exceptions in the Canadian Criminal Code for collectors (General Public) to possess counterfeit currency.

A pi$$ poor counterfeit for sure, but I suppose it is a counterfeit nonetheless.

Unless you're my cousin, noone would be stupid enough to accept this note as legal tender. If you want this exchanged for face value, why not contact him? ;D ;D
