Title: Is This an Error?
Post by: bwho9d on July 22, 2007, 07:43:58 pm
Hey,

I recently traded this note with a friend. He gave me this one so I can fill in my missing $20 singed B. Bonin / G.G. Thiessen.

It isn't in good condition, it was raining today, and he got it wet!  :-\

Anyways, the serial numbers were slightly off centre. It would usually be within the lengths of the barcode, but the first serial wasn't. It looked much like this one: http://www.cdnpapermoney.com/forum/index.php?topic=5146.0 (http://www.cdnpapermoney.com/forum/index.php?topic=5146.0) but not that low.

Is this rare ???

Anyways, here's the scan (I wish it was a cutting error, my scanner just cut the left end off  :()

In addition, the OSD had a slight "bleed" to the left. Is this also rare?

Thanks!

The OSD bleed is not an error in my opinion.  Many of the later notes had this.  As for the low position of the serial #,  I don't know.  It's lower than average, but is it low enough to command a premium?

I also have a Birds $2 but with the serial number higher than average:

...and the A in the prefix on the right is lower than the other letters, the one on the right a tad higher.  Adds to the interest of the note.  I honestly think we all set our bar at different heights with regards to what constitutes an error.  To me, It's a note I want to keep, or buy because it's different enough from most that my eye notices.  In a perfect world, we'd all find some nice MASSIVE errors.  At this early stage in my collecting, I'll put aside more minor ones to start.

The best thing was it was sold to me at face value (No, it's not up for sale again). :D

Thanks

I have one of those too.  The letter is about 1/3 higher.  Not sure what it's worth.

The 'lowered' letters and serial numbers are fairly common, especially within the Journey Series. In my personal opinion, a misprint like that would not fetch a premium unless is was much more drastic.

As for the BKE $100 note, it is definitely neat. I have seen it on a few $50 and $100 journey notes though I have found they do not command much of a premium unless the off-cut is severe enough to see the date of the adjoining note at the top right of the note.
