Title: Counterfeit $2 1878 Dominion Note
Post by: Bob on February 05, 2008, 02:12:39 pm
There is at present a counterfeit Dominion of Canada $2 1878 payable Toronto on a certain internet auction site (which shall remain nameless - you know the one).  The bidding is well past the collector value of a counterfeit so the note has fooled a few people.  I would not want to see any member of this forum get "burned" by it.
This is a "type I" forgery, in which his Lordship is very dark around the eyes.  The sheet number of this forgery is 669226 - but production ended at sheet #230000!
FYI - the item number is 360020221862.
Caveat Emptor!

Ironically the seller has indicated in bold red letters in the item description, "Fake bids will be blocked". Doesn't a "fake" note deserve "fake" bids ??

TWO messages, to no avail.  The dude's in denial.

The note has now been withdrawn because of an error in the listing - like neglecting to mention it was a counterfeit, maybe?.
However it happened, this was the only acceptable outcome.
