Title: 10$ 2007 Jenkins-Dodge with mismatched serial number
Post by: La Loutre on July 26, 2008, 11:12:14 am
I wanted to share this one with you. I found this note yesterday in circulation, and I felt good this morning when I woke up that it wasn't just a dream!  ;D :

I would grade it F+, maximum VF.
I verified pretty much all the security features, including UV, and it's not a fake.

I'd like to know how often these show up, and how much they could possibly worth. For what I've read so far, they would reach a few hundreds, but I would like to have your opinions about it.

I also would like to ask if a 5 different digits (BTG 9728330 vs. BTG 5368850) would be priced almost the same as a 4-digits, 3-digits, etc. or if the value increases with each mis-matched number.

Finally, are the prefix mis-matched rarer than the serial mis-matched?

I know, that's a lot of questions  ::) , i'm just trying to get a better idea of what's in my hands. That's why I ask the experts!
Thanks all.  ;)

The new Charlton has it as between $140 for Fine to $220 for VF (page 384). This may vary of course depending on how badly someone wants the note.

The value increases in increments of one, two, and 3+ in the catalogue.

Hope this helps!

Wow!!  Awesome find.  Has the value dropped for mismatched S/Ns?  I just checked my Charlton 20th Edition, for 3 or more mismatched S/Ns..... has a value of $625 (Pg.380 E15).  It did not mention anything about the condition of the note.

If you look on Page 372 (page 368 for the 20th edition) it lays out the valuation guide for errors- prices given assume EF for folding errors and Unc for everything else, and value adjusted using the guide on page 354.

So they are being a bit sneaky with the error note values, but there you go  ::)

Should you ever decide that you would like to sell this note please let me know as I collect these type of Error's and would offer you a fair value for it. Thanks.
