Just yesterday I withdrew 11 $5 banknotes to celebrate entering 1,000 banknotes in the SNDB. Maybe I should buy a cookie for that achievement.

I'm a big fan of the SNDB and seeing everyone contribute to it makes me happy. Many more years to enter banknotes and even the new King Charles banknote releasing in 2027

Hi Whitenite,
I'm happy someone except me and Dean take attention on that variety. You do not realized how many 1$ 1973 and 2$ 1986 I look through. For now I realized it's more easy to found 2$ 1986 for large''B'' than the 1$ 1973!
If you want to sell it let me know or at Dean.
Thank you again for the information.

Claude

November 18th summary:

I was so busy this week, I had no time to post.
Here is what I found from the Main Branch

Some nice journey $10s and $20s
Some circulated $1s and $2s
A nice multicolour $100 and a couple of birds $10s.

From $500 in quarters and $250 in dimes:
A bunch of US coins, lots of commemorative quarters and one silver dime from 1964 that looks like it came out of an uncirculated set.

Stay tuned for part 2…

Enjoy!

Dean

Further to my previous finds of small B's in the 1973 $1 banknotes, I re-examined the 6 bundles of 1973 $1 notes I got from a collection dump in the Ottawa Valley where I found a small BCP and 2 small BCT's which were posted earlier in this section of the Forum.  I discovered a small BFG $1 banknote which could be the first reported small B for this series of prefixes for these $1 banknotes.

I posted the image of this banknote and compared it to the image of the big B for the same prefix of BFG.

No doubt, there are more and we need to keep on looking through all the $1 banknotes to determine what are the prefixes and the range of the small B prefixes.

Enjoy the image and keep on searching!!

Best regards, Whitenite

Based on articles I have been reading lately, I learned that the union has several key demands. Among them include wages, job security, 40-hour work week, and pensions.  I'd say, as the talks continue during the strike, they will eventually have only two key demands left - most likely wages and job security.  The federal labour lawyer will likely inform them "you can only have one or the other" - and the union will likely, but reluctantly surrender the job security and take the wage hike.  Then, after the strike is settled, layoff notices will be issued to thousands of workers, possibly well over 10,000.  I wouldn't be shocked if there could be a big lump-sum signing bonus in any offer that takes place.  I mean, the Boeing offer that union accepted did have a big signing bonus, but in order to make that happen there had to be layoffs.

19   Show and Tell / 1951 and 1947 ML Pennies

I went to friendly Royal Bank branch in the Ottawa Valley to make a deposit and the Teller told me that an older person made a deposit of 6 rolls of pennies about hour earlier.  She mentioned that these roll of pennies were heavier than normal and I responded, why not.  To my amazement, I noticed the head of King George VI on some of these rolls and I gladly took them home.  It was a total of 6 rolls for $3.  Once, I got home, I cracked open the rolls of pennies and I found 275 pennies dated 1951 and some of these pennies were in very good shape where I am not a certified grader but it appears that the vast majority were VF or better.

The remaining 25 pennies were dated 1947 Maple Lear and again in real good shape where these could be VF or better.  For a $3 dollar investment, the 1951 pennies at a 20 cent or better catalogue price would score $55 while the 1947 ML are worth 20 to 25 cents as there were some blunt and pointed 7's and could be worth $5.  This is better than by a coffee at the local Tim's.

The moral of the story, when a Teller asks if you are interested in pennies, don't turn it down.

No doubt this story will make Dean smile.

Best regards, Whitenite

You should probably notify the person you bought the item from, and explain the situation.  They should have no problem giving you a refund at a later date.  If they choose not to give you a refund, you may have the right to file a lawsuit.

It is weird how post offices are still open, but maybe they're only open just to sell stamps and other merchandise.

Another idea that could happen after the strike is the introduction of C.O.D. fees.  Anybody who orders any item and gets delivered by Canada Post will have to pay cash upon delivery of the item (whether physical cash, debit card, or electronic payment).

Maybe the post offices staying open might contribute to CP's depletion of operating capital by early 2025.

Negotiations are resuming today.

The stuff I am returning I bought it from Amazon so I should be able to contact their customer support and extend the deadline further until a negotiation can be agreed on.

I feel like they are open at Shoppers Drug Mart location because i believe it’s to inform customers that due to the strike they will not be accepting any packages but I also wonder are they getting paid to just stay there while the whole union/workers are on strike.

I also heard that Canada Post and the union agreed to continue delivering the next round of government benefit cheques to citizens while on strike
