Hi,
I wonder why a buyer would have to pay GST/PST/HST on purchases of Canadian currency or coins. If these items are meant to be used as financial instruments in everyday commerce, then why do we have to pay taxes on them?
Are vintage notes and coins considered to be "goods" rather than simply money? The Government is taxing people on something that they produce and that is not intended to be a collector's item.
For example, I could go to the bank to get UNC mint rolls of coins or crisp UNC banknotes for face value, but if I have to buy these very same items from a shop, I would have to pay HST on them.

I should have mentioned that the changeover should have been at HJH 1980000 but it would appear that the note with that number was deemed unfit for issue and destroyed.
Information provided to me indicates $100 with Rogers and Macklem signatures began with HJH 1980001, so the note under discussion is compliant.

April 11th finds: A fantastic Friday!
One of my banks gave me a pile of paper money, including some elusive 1954 $50 notes.
I also got some nickel dollars and 50c pieces.
I also managed to rescue one Macdonald polymer $10 to live another day. 😀
I figured that I should buy some rolled coins as well because I have a feeling that this hoard was a collection dump and that the person who deposited the bills might have left some silver coins behind as well.
