Special attention is paid to the paper security complex on the promotional banknote of Goznak dedicated to 100th anniversary of the birth of Galina Ulanova

The banknote with the high face-value is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of birth of the Great Russian ballet dancer Galina Ulanova. Thanks to the work of the artists of the Perm Printing Factory, the banknote turned out very interesting and unusual from the artistic point of view.

The security complex of the “high face-value” implies maximally secured banknote production and includes specially produced paper with new security elements.
The banknote watermark is rather unusual for banknotes with the high face-value. Instead of a local multi tone watermark, a filigree watermark is applied here.
The transparent window is introduced to this promotional banknote for the first time in the history of Goznak. It has considerable technological and security distinctions to compare with foreign analogues. In the zone received during the polymer strip formation process there is an oval-shaped window formed. But the back side of the polymer strip is completely free of paper, except for the margins sunk into the paper.
Thus, a combination of three visual security features was obtained: the pattern observed on the surface of the “window” with unbroken continuation in the transmitted light, the very “window” in the paper with the characteristic uneven “waves” of the paper fibers, and the latent (covert) feature on the back side.
The banknote paper is also protected with special fibers: the already known bi-component fibers as well as the “Zone” fibers which have been applied for a long time already but are still effective.
The traditional for high face-value banknotes intaglio printing is only on the front side of the banknote, according to the new concept of the security complex. The thing is that due to the technological peculiarities of this printing method, intaglio located on only one side of the product turns out to be of better quality and more relief than in case both the sides are intaglio-printed.
In accordance with the new security complex concept, the already well-known Goznak’s 2D-Iris printing method is presented on the other side of the banknote.

Two screen-printing inks were applied for the banknote printing. One is the already known Flash ink applied for the previous promotional banknotes, with kinetic luminescence under the influence of UV light. The other is Goznak’s new development – an ink with the phosphorescence effect applied for the new security feature with not only the well-observed “afterglow” after the UV light source is switched off, but also the kinetic effect of luminescence “buildup” by means of its combination with a special offset ink.
There is also light faintly observed ink with IR absorption.

As distinct from traditional promotional and not only promotional banknotes thickly printed with images, the back side of this promotional banknote stylistically agrees with the ballet images – light inks with subtle nuances applied for the 2D-Iris printing contribute to creating the sensation of transparence.
On the whole, the artistic image of the banknote is different from both traditional promotional banknotes of the recent years and experimental ones accomplished in the spirit of the western postmodernism.
