Bank of Brantford $1? Anybody know anything about it?

I have already posted this in the early canadian notes section, but if anybody reading in this section can help me please do!

Does anybody know what the bank of brantford was?

The note is a $1 in well circulated condition and is dated " Honton 1st of may 1862"

Were these notes issued in Brantford, Ontario?

It also says "issued and...at the agency 14"

But it is very hard to read...it says issued and ....cant read it.


I have no knowledge of this bank note, except for what i can see...

Anybody know the value?

The Bank of Brantford existed for the purpose of circulating notes in the USA with no intention of redeeming them.
It was given a charter at a time when the legislature was particularly lax in such matters, and several other fraud outfits were chartered around the same time.
Catalogue values range from $150 to $200 depending on signature and date variety, in Very Good condition.
A poor note would not sell for anywhere near as much.

It is classified as Canadian.  Like several other rogue banks of the period with Canadian addresses, the Bank of Brantford seems to have intended to defraud Americans.  Legitimate Canadian bank notes enjoyed a good reputation on the US side at the time, and unscrupulous individuals were taking advantage of the fact.
