Trading Post: Threads from new members

One of the rules we haven't been enforcing well enough lately is the minimum post count required for posting in the Trading Post.

The CPMF Code of Conduct states the following:

II - Trading Post

• In order to start using the Trading Post section to sell your specific notes, you must have a minimum of 15 posts. By doing this it gives prospective buyers some extra sense of security and it gives the seller a chance to get to know forum members and how this website functions.

I can't figure out how to prevent users with less than 15 posts from creating new threads in that forum without locking down any of their other rights. So, what I did is that any of these members can now no longer even see the Trading Post until they reach 15 posts. At that point, the forum will suddenly appear for them and they can start posting.

I hope that this will serve to help raise the overall level of confidence our members have in the Trading Post and perhaps the activity as well.

What ever you did, now you have to log in to see the trading post.....is there a quick fix for this? or do we have to log in every time we want to have a quick look and see if anything is new.

I also prevented guests from seeing the Trading Post. No sense in letting them see it if they can't access it anyway.

This is a great idea.  It will benefit both new users and experienced users.  The one obvious drawback is that members actually have to be logged in to see the forum.  Because the forum is relatively inactive, I don't log in often.

I understand the reasons why you're taking this approach.  However, it is now more of a pain for us members to have to login each and every time, rather than the many glances every day.  Could you not keep the trading post visable at all times but lock new users from posting a reply or a thread to this section?   This solution penalizes all us many members for the possible infractions of the few new ones.   Just my thoughts.....Murray.

UPDATE: Through some playing around, particularly with some advanced permission features that I had forgotten about and that I had hoped to leave disabled for as long as possible, I believe I have been able to set things up properly.

So, all new members with < 15 posts cannot post new topics to the Trading Post. Everything else for all member groups should be as per normal.

So, if I understand correctly, new members with less than 15 posts can see the Trading Post and can respond to postings on that board, meaning they can buy things from other experienced members, but they cannot sell anything?  If so, it makes perfect sense.

Correct. That is the intention of the rule in our Code of Conduct, and it is the effect of the changes I recently implemented in the forum permissions.

Looks like we're back to a system of not being able to see the Trading Post until we log in.  It shows in the number of hits for new posts.
