My dad gave me a $50 bill for Christmas in 1954 and I've had it in saran wrap ever since.  He said he got it new from the bank.  The serial numbers are B H. (one on top of the other).  Can anyone help me with the value?
Thanks

If there's a B/H in the serial number, you don't have a Devil's Face note, and the signatures are either Beattie-Rasminsky or Lawson-Bouey.

Beattie-Rasminsky has a Charlton's book value of $75 in VF condition to $300 in Gem UNC condition.

Lawson-Bouey has a book value of $75 in VF condition to $350 in Gem UNC.

Actually if you got the $50 note in 1954 and its a B/H then you have a 1937 series $50 note with either Gordon-Towers signature or Coyne-Towers signature. Both are valued close to each other...
$175 in VF to $1,600 in Gem UNC for Gordon-Towers or
$200 in VF to $1,900 in Gem UNC for Coyne-Towers.
If i were to guess you probably have the 1937 Coyne-Towers as these were still fairly common in circulation in 1954. These notes are worth a fair amount in higher grades.

Hi,

Please take your $50 out of the saran wrap as soon as possible.  That kind of plastic has compounds in it that will leach into the paper affecting its colour and the integrity of the note.

You can purchase a mylar bill holder for under $1 from any coin shop.  This note clearly has sentimental value for you...The holder will protect it for years to come.
