Interesting observation.
Would this be a cutting issue or printing issue? I thought out of register printing typically refers to the same side of printing when in a multicolour printing different colours (or microtints etc) would print out of register?
Here it seems like there was a possibility that a cut could have been made that would have avoided this situation all be it the centering on one side would have been affected.
Just curious.

So today I nearly kissed my bank teller!
Long day at work... and I'm exhausted... looking forward to going home cooking dinner and spending some quality time with my family...
I look at my phone and I see I have a missed call and 1 voice mail.
It's one of the tellers from one of the banks I go to. She left a message saying she had $50 of brand new $1 that just came in.... I tell her I will be there in 15 minutes...
Sure enough these must have been taken out from the bank and never circulated! 50 notes all AU - CUNC... yay!!

Always good to hear that there are still some tellers out there willing to help out the collector, and always
a bonus when we can build our collections for face value.
BTW ...you didn't mention what year the notes were.....

These were the 1973 multicolour issue...
I love when the tellers can hook me up with something.. and it's even better when the will give me a call personally.
