tint on 1974 $2.00 *RW?

Hi all:
I was looking at my 1974 replacement $2.00 notes the other day and I noticed that both *RW's that I have are significantly lighter in colour than the other 1974 replacement prefixs that I own. Since both my notes are relatively close together (549XXXX and 550XXXX, about 9000 apart) I initially thought they might just come from a batch of poorly inked notes, but I was wondering if anybody else's *RW are light or dark (Original vs Modified tint?)

Just checked my *RW, it's also lighter in color than the rest of them, mostly on the back of it, the front isn't as light as the back.   RS_dude

According to the catalogue, 1974 $2 notes between BC 8600000 and BP 7719999 were of the "modified tint" variety.   I don't know if various series of the asterisk notes came out in any particular order, but could your *RW notes be of the "modofied tint" variety?

Another possibility - the backs of the 1974 $2's were very susceptible to sun fading.

 Although I agree that 1974 $2.00 are very susceptible to sun fading, both my notes are UNC
so I'm pretty sure that's not the cause. I'm thinking it has something to do with the modified vs original tint thing. Of course if ALL *RW's are of the lighter tint then it matters very little. I'd be interested in knowing if anyone has darker tint *RW's and if so what serial number range they are.

Here is a scan of the back of my *RW note.  The serial number is *RW 5567436.  The tint to my eye looks much the same as the tint on all of my other 1974 $2 notes.

Here's one of my notes, *RW5509415 (top) compared to *BA0641917 (bottom). My other note, *RW5498622 is similarly light. the two notes were aquired from different sources and are not washed as far as I can tell (no smell or ripples, althought the embossing isn't particularly heavy on either).
Maybe just a matter of ink mix at press time? All the other replacement 1974 $2.00's I've got fall in line with the *BA more or less.

This is a similar scenario to the 1979 $20. If you look at a Lawson-Bouey $20 you will find that it has a darker color compared to the thiessen Crow.
