Some places might have them Wednesday, some might have them on Thursday (like us "newfs"), some might have them later on, but don't despair - you will get them eventually!

Call your main branch on Wednesday morning before the doors open...

Luckily for me, I will be on my March Break that week, so when the 17th rolls around, I will be ready.  

I agree.  Canadians would feel more secure with their currency, and the uniformity of the banknotes would be preserved.

Plus, the current $5s and $10s would go up in value!

I have wondered that myself.  On ONE hand, the $20 is one of the most common notes, and it could be next for THAT reason.  On the other hand, the $20 was the LAST note released in the Bird Series (or one of the last, at least), so that shoots a hole through my theory on the first hand.

FYI: Like the Multicoloured Series (1969-75, 1979), the notes with the Prime Ministers are being released in the order that these Prime Ministers held office (Macdonald--$10, Laurier--$5, Borden--$100, King--$50).  I think that's neat.

Addendum to my last paragraph--I KNOW that the $100 was actually not released until 1976, in spite of a 1975 engraving, so the order is not QUITE the same.  I AM aware of this, so I don't need a bunch of corrections, please.

THE POINT IS.....

I am not certain which note we'll see next between the $20 and the $50.

It would be really cool to see the new $50 next.  To me, the $50 note is the most "attractive" note thanks to its bright red colour and more "modern" portrait of MacKenzie King, and I would really like to see the theme of "nation building" on the back of the new $50.

And it would be kind of cool to see the new $20 note soon, with artwork of renowned Canadian artist Bill Reid, and a more "modern" portrait of the Queen.  By the way, do you suppose there will be totem poles on the back of the new $20 note?  

The way it is going so far, 2004 will be a busy year for new banknotes...  

Let's look forward to the release of the new $100 first before we worry about the next new note...

I think this will be the first year of morethan 2 banknotes introduced since 1954.

Btw, this discussion DOES seem to be turning into a dialogue just between us; wouldn't you agree, Jonathan?

With just a little more than three weeks to go, I am getting really excited.  I have cleared a space in my album for the new $100, and I am hoping to get the plastic envelope for it this week.

Once that's done, I will pine away for the $20, the $50, and the next stanzas to Jonathan's Journey series banknote poem!

Hi all. This is a niggling response to Jason, who recently posted that 1954 was the last year during which more than one new note was released (anticipating the release of new $100s, $20s and $50s this year).

Not so. Both the 1975 $50 and the 1974 $2 were released in the same year, 1975, despite the 1974 date on the $2s. In fact, the $50 was available in March of that year, and the $2 not until August.

Further, the Bird $2 and $5 were both released in 1986 (the $5 in April and the $2 in September). And, the Bird $10 and $50 also came out in the same year, 1989, despite the 1988 date on the $50.

So there!

Not to worry, James.  I've been gently put in my place a few times on these boards.  It's no biggie!

A bit of lacklustre news... So far I've contacted several banks in my area.  The one considered to be the "main branch" of TD CT actually orders very little currency because they mainly receive cash from business deposits.  Other branches seemed to not even know a new $100 was coming.  One branch said they'd be getting an order of cash in on Thursday and Friday, but there were no guarantees that there would be new $100s in there.

On another note, (no pun intended), one of the CIBC branches that I'm on good terms with called me today to tell me that the new $100s would be in to that branch on Friday.

So I don't think I'll be taking the day off on Wednesday, but rather I'll be patiently waiting for the local branches to get them, one by one.

Well; I'll be downtown,,at the Bank of Canada...hopefully they will have some LOL...

I called the CIBC near me today, they said the new $100 bill will be available from tomorrow.

CIBC, eh?  I may have to visit them myself.  

Unfortunately im working 7am-330 tomorrow... i have no chance to get them tomorrow. I would go on my lunch break at 11am but the local bank in my area is very slow... the tellers work like turtles.
