Prices out of reach for collectors??

Hi All: After trying to win some of the notes, via internet, at the recent CNA Auction I wasn't able to win one note   .  Being an avid Error note collector I was amazed at the prices realized for most of these notes, in particular, the 50.00 Bird note with the number 1000 on the OSD selling for 2900 + 32.5% One other note that seamed quite high was the 100.00 Journey radar with serial number 4444444 realizing 1400 + fees & taxes, the catalogue being 650 . Is it just me, or do any other Forum members feel that the prices now are becoming out of reach for the "average" collector ?

Yup, looking at auction prices lately I feel very under average lately. This is not inflation, that for sure.

Hi Archey80:   Re: your  "Someone Please explain".... I'm pretty certain that this particular price was an Error for an Error    Sorry I just had to....They don't come to me very much anymore .     Rob.

Error notes along with radars, particularly solids have been recently 'discovered' as a nifty new area by noveau rich collectors & paper money speculators so it's not surprising that the prices will be a little on the high side for awhile across the board. Much the same thing happened with Charters & Replacements & they've since settled down.
Also, truly exceptional errors have always been a tad under appreciated as have solids anyhow and the market is adjusting as serious collectors start to but them, particularly the solid SN's.
That being said, when looking at auction results from any major auction
( unless you are there on the floor & see it sell) I've noticed many items with one bid are generally buy backs. I 'think' that may have been the case in the one link Archey80 posted so keep the faith.

That note in that link is a little expensive for me. Check this one out 160042249505. As a RADAR collector, I've found that I need to very sure I want the note before I bid.

There is an error in the ebay post. This note sold on the floor for $16.50 from my records.

The error was not of an offset 1973 $1 note on another 1973 $1 note, rather it was a 1967 $1 note which was offset onto a 1973 $1 notes. How that would occur is a different story...?

It looks like as a nice forgery... ::
