Value-Grade - 1870 25 cent - Dominion of Canada

Hello..

I recently purchased a 1870 25 cent - Dominion of Canada note.

Links below to Scans.   I know it is soiled and in rough shape but hey is over 100 years old.

Could any of you give me your opinion on the Grade/Value of the note please.

Using the Charlton's Cataloguing system your note is a DC-1c (a "plain" series letter note because there is no series letter A or B below the year 1870).

Actually in my opinion your note is in pretty good condition since a minimal amount of the design has worn off - a little bit is worn off on the back of the note in the vertical fold in the centre.

From the scan I can't tell if there are any pinholes but you appear to have a note grading between Fine and Very Fine.  Using last year's Charlton, a Fine is worth $50 (book value) and a Very Fine is $100, so yours is probably in the $70-$80 range.

That's about what I was expecting.  I know the note is not in "GEM" state but I thought it was in decent shape and was more concentrated on the how much of the design and detail you could see.

Guess I got a good deal since I purchased it for $18.
