Fighting Fraud on the Front Lines - Bank of Canada to launch a new anti-fraud program for retailers

TORONTO, ONTARIO – On Monday, 3 March 2008 at 10:00 ET, the Bank of Canada will launch a new anti-fraud training kit for Canadian retailers called Fighting Fraud on the Front Lines. This kit was developed in collaboration with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), Payment Card Partners (representing Visa, MasterCard, and Interac issuers and acquirers), Canada Post, and several other law-enforcement agencies and industry associations.

What?
This kit provides retailers with advice and valuable information about how to protect themselves against four types of payment fraud: bank note counterfeiting, payment card crime, cheque and money order fraud, and identity theft.

Who?
Members of the press, retailers, and the public are invited to the launch. Attendees will have access to four kiosks where video training on each type of payment fraud will be showcased, and senior     representatives from partner organizations will be available to answer questions. The press and retailers will receive a program kit with supporting educational resources.

Toronto Eaton Centre, Albert's Way, Main Level (near the Swarovski jewellery store)

When?
Monday, 3 March 2008 at 10:00 ET

- Program introduction: 10:00 ET The program will be launched by Gerry Gaetz, Chief of the Bank of         Canada's Department of Banking Operations and Chief Superintendent  Denis Constant, Director General, Financial Crime, from the RCMP.

- Viewing of the four anti-fraud kiosks: 10:15 to 11:00 ET Gerry Gaetz, Chief Superintendent Denis Constant, and other senior representatives from the 12 partner organizations involved in this new anti-fraud program for retailers will be available to the press following the launch of the program. Note that the anti-fraud videos can be viewed until 3 p.m.
