Possible National Rare Note Database

Just some thoughts on how a Possible National Rare Note Database  would work.

Database - Revelant data
==================
- Indexed by serial #
- Grade , last known sale date  & price  (if known)
- denomination , year and signatures
- description (notes) - specifically any problems with the note , alterations , rarity etc.

Sources of Database
===============

- old  & recent auction catalogues
- WIKI registry
- eBay
- Private contributions & dealer stock (shows)
- Merging of grading company registries

Operation / Maintenance of Database
==========================
- - one individual would be responsible for security , maintenance etc
-   Searching of serial numbers may be performed by entering serial number by anyone
-   Adding notes to the database can be added by any CPMS member , and possibly subject to approval ( verification )

Benefits of National Database
=====================

- Instant access to a notes history
- deterent to alteration of original notes
- provides peace of mind for high price rare note purchases
- could be used to generate population reports  and other useful reports
- would be useful with determining current trends and catalogue prices

Sounds great!! Your hired!  lol Really though, this does sound good. just finding the human capital to make it happen might be tough.

The CPMS Note Registers project, which just so happens to be another one of the many pies I seem to have my fingers in, is working towards doing this same sort of thing, although it has been ... challenging ... to poke and prod the CPMS to embrace modern technology. Trust me, I am probably one of the best proponents of such a project, but I have to work with what I've got in order to do this properly and with the support of the CPMS.

If you are interested in assisting with what will likely evolve into the above over time, I encourage you to start by volunteering as a Wiki Contributor (see my other post). The most valuable way you or anyone else can help at this time is to do the research and legwork of finding and recording all of these rare notes into a central resource such as the Wiki site.
